Sheepshaver is followed closely by the equally oddly named Basilisk II. The curiously named Sheepshaver application is the best supported Mac emulator currently out there. Will go to the BeOS Software Development '98 Conference this week and roll out the first version of its operating system for Intel processors and talk up the first public release of BeOS for PowerPC machines.Installing and setting up either of the two major Mac OS emulators presently available is a bit of a chore. Currently, SoftMac emulates a Motorola 68K processor on X86 processors from AMD and Intel.Be Inc. This program aims to not only improve upon what Sheepshaver, PearPC, and other PowerPC mac emulators have done, but also to provide a better debugging environment.Emulators’ flagship product, SoftMac, emulates the Mac OS as a standard Windows application. While many other PowerPC emus exist (PearPC, Sheepshaver), none of them currently attempt emulation of PPC Macs accurately (except for QEMU). ![]() ![]()
